The Haitian Astronomical Society (Societe Haitienne d'Astronomie [in frech] registered in Haiti (STW-26129)) is planning, conjointly with Asteroid Day, a special public meeting on June 30, 2017 to raise public awareness about asteroids. It is "A global day of education to help protect Earth from asteroids." And the United Nation even declare this day (June 30) as International Asteroid Day.
We are a small Haitian group wich aims to inform, educate and communicate basic astronomy to Haitians even if we are in particular socio-economical & political situation. Our plan for the June 30 (Asteroid Day) is to have a specil meeting in the HQ of the association where the plublic would be invited to assist presentations about asteroids.
The show will have direct powerpoint presentation by Dr Rulx Narcisse (Astronomy Expert) and video projections (mostly from Asteroid Day site & Youtube). After there will be a panel for discussion with the public (in Haitian Creole). We plan to have national journalists present and having local TV transmission.
The Haitian Astronomical Society is a team devoted to fight for scientific education.
We need to educate our population about science even if we have another social, political and economical problem in the country. The currency in Haiti is "Gourde" and the rate now is 1 US$ = 68.75G. (Feb-15-2017). As the devaluation of our Gourde may become worse, we will take care of it in the association.
Unless you disagree, we present a plublic thanks in our Blog, Facebook & Twitter
